Womenโs Health Week
Sep 07, 2023The Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week runs from the 4th to the 8th of September! Each day of the Women’s Health Week has a particular focus as shown below.
The theme for 2023 is “Grow your knowledge. It’s all about supporting women to make informed decisions about their health with information that’s easy to understand.”
When I think about this in the context of sexual health, the best way we can facilitate knowledge for all genders is to first teach people about their bodies accurately from a young age. Parents play a crucial role in delivering age-appropriate health and sexuality information to their children so that they are able to first understand their bodies, and then make informed decisions about their health.
When we grew up there were commonly a lot of hushed tones, fear and stigma surrounding these topics. We can break this cycle by demonstrating to children that it is ok to discuss these topics, be proactive about their sexual health as they develop and to seek help if they need it. It’s time now to empower our children with knowledge so they can lead safe, positive and healthy lives.
Parents who are looking for guidance on how to talk to their children about all things sex, sexuality, diversity, puberty, respectful relationships, consent and more I cover this all in my new book “Talking Sex: A Conversation Guide for Parents!” You can purchase the book here.
